Ecological Restoration operations

Kaitiaki o Ngahere’s managers are specialists in pest plant control, some having been in the industry since restoration became an operation distinct from traditional parks work, agricultural weed control and forestry-style planting.  Through being intrinsically involved with the changing techniques and ideas of the ecological restoration industry, our managers have developed many of the skills and set standards within it.

Our Operations teams use methods that have been specifically developed for the types of species that we deal with and the environments we work in.  We can apply these methods to many situations depending on our client’s requirements, along with the desired level of mapping and reporting.  We are regularly involved in projects such as old man’s beard control in SNAs (Significant Natural Areas), multi-species control in reserves and large forest areas, wetland pest plant control and revegetation, riparian restoration and may more.  Our expertise can be put to work in all kinds of natural areas that are threatened by invasive weeds or have been subject to disturbance that is threatening its ecological integrity and health.
Often pest plant control goes hand in hand with pest animal control.  By controlling pest animals in tandem with pest plants we can offer a natural area an even better chance of being restored to a thriving ecosystem.  This may involve controlling pests such as rats, mice, stoats, cats and possums.  We have the capability to implement pest animal control operations on various scales to suit your project.
We aim to consistently exceed best practice standards, both in Health and Safety and restoration techniques.  Self-auditing is a standard part of our operations.
