Riverview Reserve pest plant control, structure and track maintenance

Riverview Scenic Reserve situated on the outskirts of Murchison covers an area of 4.65 ha and supports a remnant of native floodplain forest dominated by tall Kahikatea trees. The reserve has running through it a 700m long walking loop track and several timber boardwalks.

  • Newly maintained track

  • Repaired boardwalk

  • Riverview Reserve location

Project components
Kaitiaki o Ngahere was contracted by Tasman District Council to undertake the following:

  • Pest plant control within the reserve
  • Inspection and report on structure condition and remedial works required
  • Undertake structure upgrades and on-going maintenance
  • Undertake initial vegetation maintenance along the track length and on-going 3 monthly vegetation maintenance
  • Undertake track surface and watertable maintenance on an on-going basis

The outcome
Riverview Scenic Reserve now has structures that are safe and up to NZ Standards.  The tracks are well kept and our on-going maintenance contract means that they will be easily accessible all through the year.  There has been initial and follow-up pest plant control carried out, resulting in only a seedbank of pest plants remaining.
